Maya: You look like you've figured something out, what is it?

Nikita: That window way up there has water on it.

Maya: How can you tell? I can barely see it.

Nikita: All the other windows have clear glass, so it wasn't a dusty window, and it's not patterned glass. The window is fogged.

Maya: Yeah, I guess it could be water, but where is Victor?

Nikita: I think he is bathing or showering...

Maya: Well, what should we do... just wait?

Nikita: I still want to check inside and see if everything is okay.

*Maya takes a deep breath*

*Open the front door and walk inside*

Maya: This feels kind of wrong.

Nikita: Look, there are two bottles of vodka over there...

Maya: They are full, did he just buy them?

Nikita: Did you hear that...? Footsteps.

Victor: Nikita... Hi, sorry, I didn't know you would be here so early.

What I deduced was correct, Victor was taking a shower. He said he wanted to clean up before seeing me and that he misjudged how much time he had. I introduced Victor to Maya and Maya wasn't judgmental, she was kind. I think the two of them got along well. I also asked Victor about the bottles of vodka, but I didn't want to pressure him too much... however, he did say that he would dump them down the drain which took some stress off of me.

The conversation here was pretty standard, and I got a glimpse of a small smile from Victor. I think he was happy to see me happy. Maya truly did make me happy, we had so many good times. Sometimes, I wish what it could have been... all these years later.

Victor told me he had been looking for work but not as much as he should have been. This didn't surprise me, and I said I'd be there to support him. Sometimes, I wondered what happened to Victor... he had sad moments and episodes throughout his life. What happened to him? I never really asked him about his past... but I should have.

I pulled him aside for a while and asked about more private matters, such as what he thought of my new girlfriend and how his own love life was holding up... keep in mind my brother and I almost never saw Victor with a woman. He was a lonely guy for sure, which was one of the reasons I wanted to keep checking up on him... the guy could use some company and social interaction.

I told him I'd come back sometime soon, which I did... very soon. I decided to come back the very next day...

Pavel: You want me to come with? Or is Maya coming?

Nikita: You can't hide from Maya forever, Pavel.

Pavel: I'll let you check on Victor. I think you're closer to him anyway.

Nikita: Yeah, sounds good. I'll be back soon.

Pavel: I'll have some food ready by then. See you.

*Drive to Victor's house*

*Raindrops fall on the windshield of the car*

Nikita: A storm is coming... the clouds are almost black...

*Park the car and walk to Victor's.

Nikita: Not this again...

*Look inside the windows*

Nikita: Oh, no...

He's definitely drunk... He's meandering across his living room with a bottle of vodka.

A drunken Victor fell asleep shortly after our heated conversation. I knew he didn't mean to insult me, but when he drinks he becomes agitated very easily. I had to stay there and make sure he was okay...

It's so sad to see a man degrade into an alcoholic. The misery... the sadness... the pain, I'm always reminded that I should never turn to alcohol like Victor did.

I told my brother about what happened with Victor and I could tell it disappointed him a lot. He said once I didn't come home for 30 minutes, he assumed that Victor had been drinking. After a few of these nights... babysitting Victor... I began to feel like I wasn't a child anymore. I felt like the roles switched and now I had to watch over him. I think this shaped me into a more thoughtful person.
